The Court OfYuletide Timing

When Do You Start An Advent Calendar?

December 1st, one door a day, through December 24th. Most calendars you can buy run on exactly that schedule, and it says so on the front.

This is the only item on the docket that arrives with its own ruling printed on it. Door 1 means December 1st. Door 2 means December 2nd. The Court has read a lot of contracts and this is the clearest one it has ever seen.

A small technical note, because someone always writes in. Traditional Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, so it can start as early as November 27th. If your calendar is a church one, follow the church. Most store calendars, the kind with chocolate in them, just count from December 1st to the 24th, and that's what this Court means.

You can buy one whenever you want, and you should buy it early, since the good ones sell out. Buying is just shopping. Opening is the offense.

Yes, you can peel back door 9 today and eat what's in there. The chocolate is the same chocolate. The Court isn't angry. It's just going to remember. When you open door 9 on the 9th and find a hole, you're going to feel something, and that's the sentence.

If you've got two kids and one calendar, the Court will not be taking that case. You knew what you were doing.

The Ruling: Allowed from December 1 through December 24.
